I Think I Finally Figured it Out - The Canadian Political Landscape
It may be that I am a little slow on the uptake, and it is possible that you figured this out long ago. I think I always knew this somewhere in the back of my brain, but the pieces really clicked into place just this morning when I was thinking about a recent announcement by the Liberal government of Canada. Yesterday morning, I read that Minster Francois-Philippe Champagne was going to announce that the gas tax vacation that the Liberal government enacted in April and which was slated to end on September 7, was going to be extended until January 31, 2027. This program offered $0.10 per litre of tax relief on regular unleaded gasoline and $0.04 per litre on diesel, among breaks on some other fuels. The media praised Mark Carney for this move originally, and extols his virtues now with the extension. But wait...wasn't this initially an idea presented by Pierre Poillievre? Why yes, yes it was.
