This is Canada's "Come to God" Moment

If you pay any attention to world events, you should have realized by now that western civilization is moving in a downward spiral. Historically, it has been the western world that has driven scientific, engineering, medical, social and really all other advances in humanity. We see other areas of the world and other cultures try to claim credit, particularly Islam, but a simple examination of the countries in which these other cultures originate shows us the truth. In the case of Islam, most of the countries in which Islam is the national religion are among the oldest countries in the world, yet their infrastructure, their medical services, their very seats of governance are far behind the refinement of western countries with much younger civilizations.

This is not to say that western countries have it all together. But considering the youth of western civilization, it is impressive what has been accomplished over those centuries.

But the western world is beginning to collapse upon itself while the other cultures are soldiering on. While their comforts may be lacking to a large degree for a large portion of the populations, Middle East and west Asian countries do not have population collapse to the same degree as western nations, and their societies are not tearing themselves apart to out-compassion each other in the ways that western societies are. We are undermining our own civilizations with toxic empathy, inviting non-compatible cultures into our lands and allowing them to bring their backwards ways of life into our western world.

This is not a rant against immigration, but Canada, in particular, used to do a much better job of vetting potential immigrants and turning away those who arrived on our shores and at our borders seeking to enter illegally. We used to interrogate those who wanted to move to our country to make sure that they intended to contribute to the good of the nation with skills that we valued, and that they were not coming here merely to partake of the benefits without contributing to the nation. We used to make it very clear that integration into Canadian life was expected. This did not mean that their culture had to be disposed of, but that their culture would meld with our culture so that society would function smoothly and the country would remain the oasis of cleanliness, respect and freedom that it has been for most of our 159 years.

But something has been happening to Canada and to other western countries. Something has shifted and it seems that at least nearly all western nations are experiencing collapse to some degree or another.

There is a collapse of industrial might. During World War II, the scale of industrial production in the U.S. in particular, but also Great Britain, Russia and Germany ramped up at rates and to scales that we have not seen since. Factories were built and goods were produced to feed the war machines, but the lessons learned during those years were carried forward and refined to make the western world the envy of the rest of the world. We produced goods with such efficiency that there were millions of production jobs created, generating wealth for the entire society and allowing our way of life to shift from working to survive to working to relax. Expendable income for the masses came to fruition for the first time and people began to pursue recreation because we had the base of production that allowed it.

This pursuit of recreation and the expansion of expendable income created an environment wherein we got lazy and didn't want to produce anymore, while at the same time, other nations saw the successes of the western world and sought to reproduce it for themselves, adopting the systems that we proved and seeking to undermine our own production through lower prices. This moved our production overseas, enriching the other nations while we sat back on our laurels and consumed the wealth generated by previous generations, never paying attention to the fact that we were becoming fully reliant on other nations to provide us with the things that would keep us fat and lazy.

All of this leisure, combined with the Christian notion of charity, lead inevitably to concern for the welfare of others. We first built massive social programs for those who needed them, which was the right thing to do at the time; but then we failed to understand that people are inherently evil and evil people will exploit the charity of others at every opportunity. We failed to police our own systems, and those social systems have become overwhelmed by fraud and corruption.

This charitable mindset also worked into matters of morality. We no longer recognized that one's choices that lead to criminal or unethical acts should carry consequences, and we began to make excuses for those who would and did take advantage of our kindnesses. We see this in our legal systems that no longer hold people to account for their wrongs, but rather make excuses for the wrongdoers and even apologize to the perpetrator for the ways in which the society that has made life so easy for so many for so long has "failed" them, "forcing" them to act out in the ways that they did.

Carry this further into matters of sexual morality and we see sexual perversions supported by community groups and governments AND CHURCHES; we see sexuality thrust upon our young people through media and clothing options; we have children that are being sexualized through pornographic books on the shelves of their elementary and high school libraries and parents consuming porn openly in the homes. I have also heard reports of children witnessing sexual acts performed in the open in their own homes by their own caregivers and too often, children are used as sexual play things by adults, which damages their young minds and bodies and which teaches these young children that sexuality towards children is okay and some children even start to exhibit sexually explicit actions in order to gain attention from others; adults and other children alike.

These tendencies that I have thus far identified, and many more besides, tend to be based on liberal or progressive ideals. We have seen the result of progressive politics across western governments over the last ten to fifteen years in particular. If one looks to the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain in particular, one can see that these progressive ideas that view all cultures as equal in all ways has eroded the societies that used to be the ideal to strive for to become the shit holes that they now are. 

There was a time, 15 to 20 years ago, when I might have been convinced to travel to Europe to see the sights of civilizations that have existed long before our North American way of life began to form. One could see the sights of beautifully maintained countrysides and classic architecture and experience the openness of safe and welcoming culture. But now, the safety is largely gone in the major cities, as is the cleanliness and welcoming attitude. I imagine that one can still find enclaves of old Europe if one avoids the tourist traps and the cities as a whole, but progressive ideology has flooded Europe with foreigners who have no respect for western civilization, but would rather see it overthrown in favour of their own unrefined societies.

We see the same happening to North America as well, but we have been sheltered from the brunt of it by large oceans on either side of us, making it somewhat more costly and difficult for these unenlightened societies to infiltrate us as quickly; bit it is still happening, and those who are in favour of it are working to increase the rate of infiltration. They don't see the damage that it is doing to their own society but are rather driven by their toxic empathy, thinking that just introducing these backwards people to western society will open their eyes to the wonders of it and turn them into good, productive citizens. They fail to recognize that the cultural differences do not allow for that to happen.

Again, I want to iterate that these ideas and their resultant problems are rooted in liberal, progressive, left-wing ideologies. In Canada, we call the left wing of political thought liberal and the right wing conservative. Liberal thought is defined as tolerant; not narrow in one's ideas and views; favouring progress and reforms. In reality, that has morphed to where the liberal view no longer accepts dissent or disagreement. Conservative thought is defined as inclined to keep things as they are or were in the past; free from novelties and fads. There is a desire to defend what has been and what has worked, which includes protecting our society from dilution by ideas from other cultures. The left wing and the right wing of thought and politics.

Conservatives want to defend our country from outside ideas and are largely seen as being against the expansion of government with it's inherent intrusion into the lives of the people. There is a general mistrust of government and a desire to control one's own life. Liberals want to include everyone into everything, presuming that all people are inherently good and that all people want what we have built. They desire more government intrusion with the belief that government will never overstep their bounds or harm the nation.

The Bible speaks to this dichotomy.

Before I get to the passage that I have in mind, I want to introduce the book in which it is found. The book of Ecclesiastes is a collection of thoughts as recorded by a teacher of the people. The word that is used in the Septuagint for teacher is ecclesiastes, hence the name of this book. The author of the book is not given, but there are strong suggestions that King Solomon was the author and that this collection of thoughts was accomplished in his old age. Taking from an introduction to Ecclesiastes from an old NIV Bible that speaks to the purpose of the writings, we read that, "Life not centred on God is purposeless and meaningless. Without him, nothing can satisfy. With him, all of life and his other good gifts are to be gratefully received and used and enjoyed to the full. The book contains the philosophical and theological reflections of an old man, most of whose life was meaningless because he had not himself relied on God."

With this as a background to the writings in Ecclesiastes, we come to the second verse of the tenth chapter. In Ecclesiastes 10:2 we read that, "A wise man’s heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man’s heart directs him toward the left." There is no greater context given to this thought. It appears to be plopped down in the middle of other recordings of random thoughts. One cannot glean from the surrounding writings what the context of this particular thought was, except that it appears to address the issue of foolish and wise people.

There is also only one way that I think this can be interpreted in modern times. It cannot refer to travelling, since one needs to turn both left and right at different times and places in order to arrive at one's destination. One can take things to an extreme and navigate using only right turns, but this would lean towards an act of the foolish person and is not sensibly accomplished. This is also not going to refer to a person physically leaning to one side or another. This would be hard on a body that God created to be symmetrical and balanced. I am being somewhat facetious here as I try to think of ways in which someone who disagrees with me will try to argue for a different meaning than what I am offering here.

The Word says the man's heart directs him to the left or to the right. This is not a matter of navigation or physical posture; this is a matter of making decisions and taking actions. This does not refer only to a political bent or ideology, but to all things pertaining to how we live our lives. In everything we do, we are making decisions and judgment calls in what we think is right, and while we say that we are making a decision with our brain, it is our heart that leads us.

But in this, we also need to keep in mind another verse, which we find in Jeremiah 17:9; "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?" One might put that in layman's terms and say that the heart wants what it wants, which refers to the pursuit of one's desires even when they know that it is to their own detriment. We cannot trust our heart to lead us in ways that are always for our own good.

God set His law above humanity. Whether or not you acknowledge Him, you are observing His law in one way or another. It is God who set morality before us. It is God's law that informs us that murder and theft are wrong, and even those who ignore God have an internal knowledge that their actions against others are morally wrong. Without God's moral laws, humanity would devolve into chaos. The liberal minded people will take issue with that statement. The liberal mindset is that all people are good and do not seek to place themselves above others, but observation of humanity tells us otherwise.

Consider this. If you take a bunch of toddlers and place them in a room with toys, more than enough toys for all of them, and you remove all adult interference, what will you eventually see? Some child will see a toy that another child has and will decide that he or she wants it. The child that wants the toy that the other child has will walk over and take it. There will be no thought to the concerns or the desires of the other child. The only desire will be to the pleasure of self. Depending on the personality of the child, there may not be any violence involved, but this is not a given. Some children will simply take what they want and walk away, but some children will actually hit the other child in order to assert dominance first. There is also the matter of if the child from whom the toy was taken will take the toy back and also whether or not that child will resort to violence to do so.

If this is allowed to follow it's natural course, adults will be able to observe human nature it all of it's "glory". We are, by nature, selfish, and if we feel circumstances warrant it, we are also violent in the pursuit of our own desires. Parents teach their kids to share and train them to avoid violence (at least, that is what is done is civilized western society; we take that for granted). We train the human nature out of our kids for the good of society, and this knowledge of what is good for society is rooted in God's moral laws.

Jesus spoke to this in Mark 7:20-23; "And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23 All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." Mankind needs to be taught to pursue God and His righteousness, otherwise we will pursue our own nature instead.

When we pursue our own nature, we will live in ways that are contrary to God's will, and God will have to reject us due to our sin. I believe that this is the place in which we find ourselves today, in western civilization as a whole and in Canada specifically. We have rejected God's law, instead believing that we can change the moral laws according to the inclinations of our hearts. If not for the perfect nature of God's law, our liberal inclination would be admirable, though the result will always end in chaos. To seek to protect others from hurt and harm is a noble cause, but it has been hijacked by our fallen nature and western society has embraced things that God Himself has rejected and instructed us to reject as well.

Scripture is filled with stories about what happens when mankind chooses to reject God and what God does as a result of this. How many times do we read about Israel turning away from God and pursuing false idols? And how many times does this result in the nation of Israel being overrun by neighbouring pagan nations and being killed, captured and enslaved? We also see this type of penalty for individual rejection of God; this is not merely a national issue.

Isaiah 59:2 states, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." For the last 11 years, this nation has followed a path of liberal ideology that has rejected God and has placed value on our own intellect and the liberal ideologies. As a nation we have rejected God and this is evident in the repeated election of the Liberal Party of Canada. The ideals of the Liberal Party have inclined to the left to an extreme degree, and as such, even though the leader of the party claims a Catholic belief system, he is pursuing personal gain above the national good and also embraces leftist ideas that reduce the value of human life such as abortion, euthanasia and MAiD, alongside government dispensed drugs and the embrace of all alternative lifestyles while specifically targeting his supposedly personally held Christian beliefs for legal ramifications if one shares them with others. This very blog page could be targeted for persecution and prosecution at some time in the future thanks to laws that this very sitting of government has enacted into law.

This is not to say that the Conservative Party of Canada is righteous and godly. I will make no such claims. And this is also not to say that electing a Conservative government will fix all of our problems; conservatives of the past are better at holding the status quo than they are at clawing back lost ground. The only thing that electing a Conservative government will likely effect is to put the brakes on the downhill slide that this country is experiencing and hopefully restore some sanity to our national governance. This same thing needs to be said about provincial politics. We have a cluster of extremely weak leaders at the national and federal government levels. They are almost all acting out like children and allowing their emotions to rule them. We are all paying the price of this.

There is only one solution to the problems facing this country, and it is not found in man. We need to return to God to save this country from it's planned demise. No person, no political solution is the answer. I have been reading through Deuteronomy lately, and in chapter 28, we read of God's warnings to the nation of Israel if and when they would turn away from God. As I read through the warning, it struck me how many of those things are beginning to appear in the wealthy nation of Canada! But Deuteronomy 30 gives Israel the promise restoration if they return to God.

This is a warning and a promise to Israel, but Canada was founded on Christian principles and was initially a Christian nation. Christians are grafted into the tree of Israel and are subject to the blessings and curses of Israel. As such, since this has historically been a Christian nation, I believe that God has blessed this nation with abundance and peace, but as we turn away from Him and refuse to acknowledge His rule, He is withdrawing His blessing from us and leaving us to the corrupt leaders that we have now. And the devil is making the most of his opportunity.

If there is to be any hope of saving and restoring this country, then people need to examine the course of their own hearts and our relationship with God. God can and promises that He will restore us if we turn back to Him. This begins with the individuals and spreads to communities, towns, cities and provinces, eventually sweeping over the whole country. But we must incline our hearts towards God and His statutes and desires.

In the natural world, this means that as Christians, we should incline our hearts to the right, to the ways of the wise and the ways of political conservatism. We need to examine the motives of our political leaders at all times and in all matters, but the direction of the left is leading us down a path of foolish decisions and actions. This country needs to change its spiritual and political directions.

The government responds to the desires of the nation, or at least it does so if the loudest voices align with the government's goals. Right now the loudest voices are cheering the destruction of our economy because the people have believed that they have elected a smart and ethical man to lead us. What we have done is to place the reigns of the country into the hands of an unethical, corrupt, greedy man who has rejected the wise counsel of others and has pursued his own goals, which appear to be the destruction of Canada's economy, which will feed his own personal investments in the U.S. 

Mark Carney is invested in the U.S. economy at a level of 91% of his investments, and is only invested in Canada to about 5% of his investments. He does not want a deal with the U.S. Every time he is seen to be standing up to Donald Trump (not the U.S., but the man himself), Carney gets a bump in the polls. He has some by elections coming up. He wants the threat of tariffs against the U.S. to gain him wins in those elections which are happening before his promised tariffs come into effect. How much do you want to bet that the counter-tariff threat disappears after the by elections? 

Carney is chasing power, and foolish citizens whose hearts incline to the left are giving it to him. He is not worthy of this respect and power. He is not worthy of the trust that foolish Canadians have placed in him. Foolish Canadians are cheering that Mark Carney "stood up" to Donald Trump, but what has that gotten us? We still don't have a deal with the U.S. as a whole and we are losing businesses to bankruptcy and relocation to the U.S. in order for those businesses to get some stability. 42% of Canadian businesses polled are either looking at moving across our southern border or have already decided to do so. AND LIBERAL VOTERS ARE CHEERING!!?? Mark Carney is getting richer by the day while Canadians are suffering under Liberal policies, and people are cheering!?

As the title of this article states, this is Canada's "Come to God" moment. It may look like a political fight, but it is not. Our solution is not political, it is spiritual, but our politics have become a spiritual battle as much as they have become a political showdown. There was a time in this country when to vote left or to vote right was not a moral nor a spiritual decision, but that time is past. Get your hearts right with God, and incline your heart towards wisdom. Time is running out!
