"1984" in 2026

I am really beginning to wonder about Canada at this point. I am wondering how far we have slipped into the authoritarian goals that Mark Carney seems to desire so intently. As I have watched our political landscape over the last two or three weeks, I am really beginning to wonder if the fictional "1984" has finally arrived in Canada in 2026 with the Mark Carney government.

I have actually recently received a copy of George Orwell's "1984", and I'm a little over two thirds of the way through reading it, and I see too many, let's call them coincidences, in what I read in that book and what I am seeing and hearing from our government, delivered to us by the legacy media.

We actually saw this beginning under the Justin Trudeau government; this re-framing of things that we are seeing and experiencing based on how the government wants us to understand them. What comes to mind right away regarding the Trudeau government was the way that they portrayed the economy under their stewardship. Under the Stephen Harper government immediately prior to the Trudeau government, spending was reined in and, if I recall correctly, the final budget that was presented to the populace was actually balanced or very near to it.

Then enter Justin Trudeau, the trust fund baby who has never had to manage a budget, and everything went to pot, but things have been particularly bad since the 2020 thing that is never to be mentioned. Government mismanagement of funds has gone completely off the rails and the economy has been stonewalled by so many government policies, mostly based around climate alarmism and created rights for certain people groups, that nobody can actually build any competitive businesses anymore. Our economic output is so bad that our GDP is the worst in the G20. But this has not been the message from the Liberal government. As we watch our dollar get weaker and buy less almost by the week, we have been told that the economic indicators have been strong for Canada, and that our debt to GDP ratio is very healthy.

Do you want to know how the Liberals were able to make that claim without breaking out in laughter at their own claims? First, the Liberals started to include yours and my Canada Pension Plan funds into their calculations as a government asset. That is not government money; that is your money; that is my money. The government has no right to that money and cannot claim it as their asset to offset their spending habits. This has never been done before, but the Liberals needed some financial wizardry to fool us. This is a big tipping force against the 'liabilities' side of the balance sheet.

The other thing that they have done is to open the doors to immigration numbers that are not sustainable for a country the size of Canada. It doesn't matter to the government that too many people chasing too few houses, too few doctors and too little available food drives the prices of everything way up and the availability of everything way down. The government's goal was to reduce the debt to GDP ratio, not by reducing the accrual of debt, but by increasing the number of people that that debt could be shared among. More people owning the debt means a smaller debt amount per person, reducing the per capita debt and artificially improving the "on paper" financial stability of the country. They have been playing games with our economy to hide the extent of the damage from Canadians; and most have fallen for it. This is almost along the lines of the doublespeak that Orwell created in his dystopian novel.

But that is not what has gotten me really concerned; something that I have found just today. First, I need to lay a foundation of understanding for those who have not been paying attention until now, but who may stumble upon this article.

In our most recent election, Mark Carney sold himself as the brilliant globalist elite banker that knows how to handle economies and "foreign tyrants" like Donald Trump. Mark Carney sold himself as the man that could get a trade deal with Trump; and not just any deal, but a good deal for Canada. Trump was presented as a war monger who was salivating over Canada and wanted to make Canada the 51st state of the United States.

It didn't matter that in order for Trump to be able to do so legitimately, he would have to have the massive consent of Canadians through a referendum, or that to do so 'illegitimately' through a military invasion would trigger Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) agreement. "Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty states that an armed attack against one NATO member shall be considered an attack against them all." [a] In other words, if Trump were to unilaterally invade Canada militarily, the other countries that are a part of NATO would be obligated to intervene militarily on Canada's behalf. There are currently 32 countries that are members of NATO. While America's military machine is massive, taking on 31 countries collectively defending one of the members would still be a massively expensive venture, not to mention that Trump loves to be loved. Trump does not want to be seen as a tyrant and a military despot; he wants to be admired on the world stage, but not as a sycophant; he wants to be admired and loved for his accomplishments for his country.

But now we are nine full months into Mark Carney's time as Prime Minister, and not only has he not secured a good deal for Canada, nor a deal for Canada at all; Carney has actually dropped his elbows, conceded every aggressive position that he took against the U.S., and now he can't even get a face to face meeting with the leader of our closest neighbour and historic largest trading partner. He has shown himself to be a complete and abject failure at negotiating with the U.S. Now that his weakness has been exposed, he is trying to portray himself as the strong leader, and he is trying to portray Canada as not needing the US. He is making claims that we can replace from our own economy that which America is threatening to take away from us for their own economy. He is pulling another bait and switch in order to cover up his own failings. Not only that, but Carney is hopping all over the world to try to turn 20% of our trade dollars into 80% in order to turn Canada's back on the U.S. There is no way on God's green earth that Canada can replace America's trade with us through internal plus non-American foreign trade. But that doesn't stop Carney from making the claim for the politically daft to fall for. We need to remember that Trump is temporary, but the U.S. is forever. We cannot doom Canada's economy because of an "Orange Man Bad" mentality.

Mark Carney painted himself into a corner during the election, making himself out to be a strongman to stand against a strongman - Mark Carney is the second weakest leader that this country has had in decades, beating sock boy by a mere whisker. Donald Trump negotiates by bloviating against other countries and making outlandish claims against them, causing the other countries to overreact in the government and the media, then Trump back pedals a little bit and gets the deal that he wants. When countries play ball, they get a deal with Trump; when countries try to play hardball, they get left out. Canada is getting left out.

Did you know that there are only two countries in the world that Donald Trump has not managed to secure a deal with? Those two countries are China and Canada, and Trump does not want a deal with China, for very good reasons. That puts Canada in very poor company and completely undermines the narrative that Carney is a master negotiator.

It is because of Mark Carney's failures in the Canada/U.S. negotiations, and in a desperate move to try to save face, that Mark Carney has decided to pursue closer ties with the Chinese Communist Party. You may not remember this, but during the election, in the middle of the English language debate, Mark Carney was asked what he thought was the greatest threat to Canada at the time. He said that China is the greatest threat facing Canada. Yet now he is pursuing closer ties economically, culturally and in security matters. There is no logic at all to this move, but desperate men do desperate things to try to hold onto power.

Now we have finally come to what I referenced earlier as to what I discovered today which makes me wonder how far into "1984" authoritarianism we have already fallen. I did a search on the three major news broadcaster websites; CBC, CTV and Global News, to see if they carried any reference at all to Mark Carney stating during the debate that China is the greatest threat facing Canada. Guess what I found. Not one of those media sites have any reference at all to Mark Carney stating those words. You can find results on smaller news platforms and particularly in the U.S. news platforms, yet as we are on the cusp of entering a trade agreement with a country that just ten months ago was referred to by our current PM as the greatest threat to Canadian sovereignty, the legacy media is shouting out Carney's praises while hiding his previous words. In the words of George Orwell, this fact has been "memory holed", or otherwise, removed from the official record. It's almost as if the government doesn't want the people of Canada to know that our leader is about to sign us on to an agreement that less than a year ago would have made us bedfellows with our greatest threat. China has not changed; Mark Carney's public stance has changed.

Now, to be fair, I don't know for sure that any of these outlets had reported on Mark Carney's debate statement at all. It is entirely possible that I am looking for something that has never existed, but several other outlets did report this, so why didn't the legacy media? Also, every CTV site that I visited did not bring up a search bar when I clicked on the search icon. Very strange, but it could just be a temporary glitch.

What I want to know is, what has changed since the election? The only thing that I can point to are two or three trips that Mark Carney has made to China since even before the election, but with no reporting on what conversations were had with whom while Carney was there. Don't you just love transparency in government?

There is quite a bit of speculation that we are going to be getting another federal election this spring. Apparently Mark Carney is desperate to get his majority government, but it is imperative for Canadians to deny him this power. Carney most likely wants to strike before the NDP get their new leader (why it is taking the NDP this long to do so is a mystery to me). Poillievre has a strong and unshakable base of support and he is nipping at the heels of Carney's government, a mere few seats short of overthrowing Carney. The only reason the Liberals won this last election was due to the absolute collapse of the NDP vote after Jaghmeet Singh sold himself out to be a lap dog to Justin Trudeau. The NDP voters were pissed and they let the party know, but they also handed Carney his win. In any other election, the seat count that the Conservatives secured would have them sitting in a majority government position right now and we would have stability and a U.S. trade deal right now.

As we enter this spring, I want to warn you to watch out for government talking points, delivered by the talking heads of the legacy media, pounding on the "big, bad Americans" and promoting Carney as a world-class negotiator in getting a deal with China and other countries. They will completely ignore his failures with the U.S.

Mark Carney will use Canadian patriotism to try to win a majority in an election this spring or summer - do not fall for it. Mark Carney is not dealing for Canada; he is dealing for himself. There are many voices that are warning about this, not just myself, and Moose on the Loose covers Carney's many hidden connections to companies that his government policies are benefiting, also benefiting Carney's bank accounts. Carney is the most corrupt Prime Minister that Canada has ever had, and after Justin Trudeau, that is saying a lot!

Critical thinking is imperative!!

Mark Carney has fallen far short of his claims from the election and since. He is an absolute failure for Canada and he has to be removed from power as soon as possible. Mark Carney wants to make Trump out to be someone who cannot be reasoned or negotiated with, otherwise his own weaknesses will be evident for the world to see. What many don't see is that Trump is able to be reasoned with; the media has been ordered not to share this information with the electorate, "Because if Trump is capable of negotiation, then Canada's lack of progress can no longer be blamed on unpredictability. It must be explained elsewhere. And that's through our bad leadership, terrible strategy, or complete incompetence." [b]

Before I finish, I also want to warn my readers against blatant efforts to try to buy your vote. The Carney Liberal government has just announced that they are replacing the GST Credit with the "Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit". They will likely announce this as a brand new program, but according to the Prime Minister's own website, this is not a new program, but rather "The government is introducing the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit – formerly the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Credit" (emphasis added). They are adding 25% to the annual payout amounts in an effort to make it seem like they are concerned about the struggles that Canadians are facing, but this is just another handout of the money that they are taking from you in the first place; they are trying to buy you with your own money; that's what all government money is. They have to take it from you because they don't have any of their own. The government is also planning "a one-time payment, equivalent to a 50% increase this year". They will do this just before we enter an election cycle so that they can point to it and say that they care about Canadians. So why don't they remove the policies that are driving up the costs of living instead of giving us handouts? Because that would go against their long-term goals.

This Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payout is a program with an end date. Up until now, there has been no end date on the GST Credit that low income Canadians receive. By renaming it and giving this "new" program an end date, which is five years from now (after the next likely election should the Liberals secure their majority mandate), they will be able to keep all of the GST money that they have been collecting instead of giving some of our money back to us. This is not a hand-up; this is a hand-out. This is not intended to help us, but to help them. This is how the Liberal government makes us all dependent on them. Don't let them fool you Canada! Things are worse than ever in this country under this and the previous Liberal government. Don't give them another mandate.

One last aspect that I want to touch on from "1984" is this; the "Inner Party", what we might call the government Cabinet under the leadership of "Big Brother" (the Prime Minister), reigns over the populace by baiting them with constant fear and constant anger towards those whom they are told are their enemies. It is this fear and anger that makes the populace easy to control and to persuade, fed only the government talking points through the government controlled media devices. No alternate ideas are allowed, being discounted as fable or spin. If the government does not say it, then there is no truth in it.

This is the same play that we are facing now, in 2026, from our own government. They are training us to believe only what they tell us is true and to not dig for more information. We have to dig past the facade to know the truth. The truth can stand up to scrutiny, while lies are disinfected by exposure to the light. Shine a light and live in truth and hope. The Liberals will want you to vote based on fear; this is how they won the last election. The Conservatives are offering a beam of light that leads to hope.

You can vote based on fear, or you can vote based on hope. The choice is yours. Choose wisely.
