The Spiritual Realm is Real and Active - Observations About Angels and How God Uses Them

I want to try to wrap up the series about the spiritual realm with this article. I have been writing about this topic for over a month now and while there has been a lot of material to cover, I think it is high time that this gets wrapped up.

In this article, I want to share some things that I have learned about God's angels and how He uses them. I don't expect this article to be particularly long. It is based largely upon things that I have been told by people whom I have consulted with on spiritual matters, including some who see into the spiritual realm. We don't always understand what we are shown by God, so there are some speculative conversations that have happened around what people have told me that they have seen as we have tried to make sense of these things. So please, do not take what you are about to read as any type of theology.

First off, I will start with my understanding that true Christians have an angelic presence with them everywhere they go and at all times. I don't believe that this is a "guardian angel" type of scenario in that all living people have one. It is my understanding that God grants us these angels when we submit to Him and His will. The presence of these angels is subject to our relationship with God, not to some words that we may have said at one time. To that end, this would mean that those who have not submitted to God's will, will not have this presence with them. This makes sense if we consider that those people who are inherently evil would likely have an evil presence about them, in which case angels would not want to have anything to do with them unless God is about to reach into their lives in a very real and intense way. I suspect that we have all been in the presence of someone who we have wanted to get away from as quickly as possible. We may not have known the reason for this feeling, but it was something that we could not deny. I will always encourage a female in particular to pay attention to these feelings and to act on them even if they end up appearing rude by doing so. Your safety is more important than avoiding hurting somebody else's feelings and it may very well be that you are sensing the spiritual presence around them and that may be what is repelling you.

It is my understanding that the angels that walk with us are always present in multiples of two. I have no understanding of the reason for this, but when those who have seen angelic guardians have talked about it, they have always noted that there is always an even number of them. This has nothing to do with other angels who have a different purpose from guarding believers. I have no reason to believe that all angels travel and act in pairs. Scripture indicates that the messenger angels sent to people throughout the Bible are typically acting alone, or at least only one angel is typically mentioned. There are some contradictions to this, namely the angels that heralded Jesus' birth in the gospels, and I believe that a few of the major prophets also had some interactions with multiple angels in their visions, so this is not something that is set in stone.

As you may have caught already through my mention of the angels being present in multiples of two, I have come to learn that there are those people who have a multitude of angels that walk with them. The conclusion that has been reached in conversations with those who have told me this is that the more significant one is in God's kingdom, or otherwise said, the greater spiritual health that one has, the more of an angelic presence travels with them. For example, there is a pastor that used to lead a local church whom I have been told has an impressive entourage of literally hundreds upon hundreds of angels with him. This is a man who has been known to spend a lot of time in the presence of the Holy Spirit and who has sought to be lead by the Spirit in his ministry, and his ministry has grown exponentially. The only reason that this pastor no longer leads that church is that he felt lead to create a ministry to teach other pastors rather than to lead a congregation. I also know of another man, who is not a pastor or other spiritual leader over a lot of people who also has an impressive amount of angels with him. He is a husband, father and business owner; he is a self-employed tradesman and a man for whom I have a lot of respect simply for who he is and how he presents himself to the world. I tell you this to point out that even an average Joe can pursue God and His presence to the point of carrying with him an impressive cadre of angels with him. One does not have to be **A Pastor!!** in order to make a difference in the spiritual realm that is present on this earth, one simply needs to seek God with all his heart.

I believe that the size of the angelic presence is proportionate to the spiritual health that one pursues, and that the more that one seeks God and increases his spiritual health, the more of an angelic presence he receives. Then the more of a presence that he receives, the more he is driven to cultivate his spiritual health. The presence and the health feed each other. I also believe that the mere presence of such a person in a place can be felt by others on both sides of the spiritual realm. Their presence can calm a tense situation, or alternatively, make a calm situation tense, depending on the circumstances.

Besides the sheer number of angels that are with a person, the brightness of the guardian angels are also affected by the spiritual health of the individual. This is not particularly noticeable when someone walks with multiple pairs of angels, since the mere presence of multiple pairs indicates a healthy spiritual walk, but if someone is walking with just their initial pair of angels and they are not feeding their spiritual health needs, those two angels can become dim and look weak due to the neglect. I have even been told by someone that they have witnessed a person enter a spiritual stronghold, a property that has a strong angelic perimeter, and that person's weary looking and very dimly lighted angels actually left their host when the person arrived. If I remember correctly, other angels on the property approached the two dim angels, as if seeking to attend to their needs. It was almost like they were just too depleted and they needed a time to rest and become rejuvenated. I have no idea if that person left without an angelic presence or if there was a trade off of brighter, more 'rested' angels who left with the individual, but those original angels definitely did not stay with their person. They remained in the stronghold.

The 'seer' that saw the person arrive did not see the person leave, so to this day, I do not know if they left with an angelic presence or not, and I have no update on the situation. This is a concern for me though. I happen to know the person whose angels left them. They appear to walk the walk and talk the talk, but the condition of their angels seems to tell a different story. They and their spouse work endlessly in their chosen and self-appointed ministry, but I don't think that they have received their mandate for ministry from God. They have gone on multiple missions trips around the world, but their family life is completely gutted. They are claiming a ministry in marriage and family life, but of their three children, one has been divorced for years, one is in the process of getting divorced, and their only child with a healthy marriage is estranged from them. Yet they think that they have something to offer to those who are hurting in their marriages and families. If their angelic presence is an indication, unfortunately, they are working in the wrong areas and will find that their efforts may leave them short of receiving God's praises.

Earlier, I stated very specifically that it is true Christians that will have this angelic presence. Much like my belief that our very salvation can be lost if we do not press into God continually, as I lay out in my series on the doctrine of once saved, always saved, the same holds for the protection that He grants us with His angels at our side. If we wander away from God, what reason is there for Him to continue to provide His presence and protection to us? This goes for the presence of the Holy Spirit as well. The Holy Spirit indwells those who love God; if you stop loving and following God, He will remove His presence from you in all forms. Perhaps the Holy Spirit departs from you first but the angels stick around for little bit longer, maybe hoping that we will return to God. But it seems like they can only take so much neglect.

I mention all of this so that you can understand that the things we do and say, as well as the things that we don't do or say, can have an impact on our spiritual health and our relationship with God. We really do need to be pursuing God and not allow ourselves to become complacent in our walk with Him. This means that we need to be cultivating an area of spiritual health around us. Most people really do not understand the implications of complacency.

I want to end off with one last point regarding the spiritual realm and our interactions with it. We must be very careful about how we are being lead and who we are listening to. There are many who claim that God will never lead us in a way that is contrary to what the Bible tells us, yet I don't think that this is an entirely accurate way to say it. It is my belief that the Bible has been given to mankind to guide us through this life, yet I also believe that God still calls certain people to live differently. I believe that the Holy Spirit once told me that the Bible is for the public in general, but that when God calls someone to something other than what is specifically mentioned in Scripture, then that person has a duty to obey.

We see several times in Scripture where God calls somebody to do something that appears to go contrary to what He tells everybody else to do. They did not have the luxury of having the Scriptures to refer to when they were confronted with this calling, so they had to be sure of the voice that they were hearing. We do have the Scriptures, so if we think that we are being called to something else, we can read and study to know the nature of God and the things that He expects of us overall. If what He is calling us to aligns with His nature, even if it appears to be slightly contrary to His Word, we need to consider it prayerfully.

This is a tough situation to be in. When one walks in this way, there are a lot of doubts and fears that can come in and confuse us. This is why we need to know the voice of the Good Shepherd and we need to test the spirits as the Apostle John tells us to do in 1 John 4: 1-6; "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error."

Over the last several years I have had many people challenge me in many of the decisions that I have made, yet while I am still waiting on what I believe God has promised me, I believe that I have walked in such a way as to obey and to please Him. Those people who challenged my have not heard what God has said to me. They have not felt the peace of His presence in the midst of our troubles. Many of them have not taken their concerns to God first before they approached me with their concerns. That is not my concern or my focus. My focus has to be on God, seeking Him and striving to live as He instructs me to. I have to test the spirits and to listen for the gentle voice that I have come to recognize. Then I know that I am following my shepherd and that He will protect me wherever I am.

I really do hope that this series on the spiritual realm has helped you and that I have not confused anybody. It really is a huge topic and if not handled correctly, people can take some things the wrong way, so I have written these articles prayerfully so that I would not lead anyone astray. If any of these articles have been useful to you, please let me know in the comments below. You can find all of the articles in this series from the home page; they all start with "The Spiritual Realm is Real and Active". You can also find all of my other articles there as well. I hope some of those also appeal to you.
