Dream of July 9, 2021

Following is a dream that I had on July 9, 2021. For some reason God is prompting me to share it on this platform, though I do not know why. This dream takes place from the point of view of one watching a movie, so I think I will write it along the lines of a script with scene notations. There was conversation in the dream, but I made no notes of the specific words, so I gather that they were not important.

Here we go:

-- Viewpoint is looking out a window of an office skyscraper at night, overlooking a cityscape. We see a young man's reflection in the window as he takes a sip of coffee, the room is dark.

Young man's thought: "I never see the sun anymore."

The young man walks from the room, down a dimly lit hallway into a large room which is completely white including the floor, ceiling and walls. The room contains many plain desks with people seated, working. The young man walks to his desk, sits down, grabs some papers and starts reading. It is a script. The young man's job is to pre-read scripts submitted by individuals to either discard or pass on to superiors, possibly to make into a movie.

-- Fade to scene of outdoor police foot chase. Numerous police converge on a scene. It looks like a typical New York park with large, full trees and wide paved path/sidewalk leading to an aged stone facade wall with a plain metal door in it. We see a detective from behind as a focal point with several officers under protective cover attempting to approach the door. Suddenly a man pops up on top of the wall with a rifle and takes a few shots towards the police - he then promptly disappears.

The detective orders some of the uniformed officers to pursue the man with the rifle while he and some others approach the door to enter it. We understand they are pursuing a man that entered that door, but a man other than the shooter on the wall. The detective and officers work to clear what appears to be a long commercial type building consisting of a single hallway with rooms of undetermined use on both sides. This seems to be a basement area with no windows and sparsely lit with fluorescent fixtures, some of which are flickering

After entering one particular room, which is empty as all the others have been, a uniformed officer calls the detective back to the hallway and indicates the wall next to the door. The wall is covered with faded writing, like chalk that has been there a while with parts of the writing smudged/wiped off from people passing by. The officers continue to search the building, leaving the detective by himself as he reads the writing on the wall.

The writing tells the story of the detective's childhood - he is named. As the detective starts reading, the scene fades to an outdoor scene from the past - approximately 30 years previous. We see a residential area of a major city, again it could be New York City, with old apartment buildings, somewhat run-down, the streets are empty and there is snow on the ground and a light fresh snow is falling. The feel of the area and scene is that of a much earlier time.

We see a father and his young son of approximately seven to ten years old. They appear by their clothing to be quite poor. They are loading veggies that they have grown into a small sled. The sled is hitched to two dogs and they are going to go to a market area to sell their veggies to others in their neighbourhood as their source of income.

The two dogs become a focal point of the shot and the conversation. We find out that the dogs are named Feichel and Treichel, indicating potentially some Eastern European background of the family. The dogs are brown with prominent yellow stripes - one has the stripes along the length of it's body, the other has the stripes across/around it's body, making the dogs' markings perpendicular to each other. This is a prominent part of the scene to point this out and indicate which dog is which. The father and son embark on their journey down the street.

At one point the father stops to "tie his shoe" and tells his son to continue on with the dogs and sled and the father will catch up with them. The son turns the corner with the dogs and the father stands up and rushes down an alley. We understand that the father has done this on occasion to teach his son independence and confidence. When doing this, the father has entered the back door of a shop from the alley and rushed through in order to keep an eye on his son coming down the street through the windows at the front of the shop. There are many people walking along the sidewalk of this street. It is not crowded, but it is not nearly as empty as the street they were just on. As the son reaches the shop where his father is watching, the father steps out and greets his son and they laugh together, walking off smiling.

We see this type of scene repeating itself, though we know that it is a different day. The father stops and sends the boy on ahead again. This time we watch the boy with the dogs. He handles the dogs and the sled well and walks with confidence, knowing that he will meet his father again very soon. The boy reaches the shop where his father always steps out, but his father is not there. The boy thinks to himself that he must be getting bigger because he has beat his father to their meeting place and the boy proudly continues past the store, thinking that he will surprise his father with his speed and ability with the dogs and the sled.

A little past the store the boy looks back, but he still does not see his father. He continues on but is walking slower. He looks back again but still does not see his father.

Next we see the boy walking back towards home with the dogs, sled and veggies. He turns the corner where he left his father and proceeds to the alley opening. Looking into the alley he sees his father lying on the ground surrounded by blood on the ground. He has been killed by someone in the act of mugging/robbing him.

The son becomes a cop, the detective that we see.

The detective leaves the writing on the wall. We see part of what was written as a voice over reads the words:

"Detective {name of detective}, you won't understand this, but the past writes the future...

As the voice over continues to read the detective's childhood story, we fade back to the script reader as he peruses the script in his hands. We see that the words on the script are the same as the words being read by the voice over. The script reader begins to recognize the story as that of his father and grandfather.

End of Dream

Again, I have no idea why it is that I am supposed to post this dream on this blog. The dream was very vivid when I had it, the story is intriguing and makes one wonder how the rest of the story would play out (at least it does for me), and details of what I saw are still sharp in my mind as I read my hastily scribbled notes two weeks later. Feel free to comment your thoughts below.
